Huddle01 is building the next innovation in the communication space via the internet. We are taking a progressive decentralized approach while keeping privacy and security intact! With that said, we are also taking a product-first approach while making the dRTC, a decentralized RTC protocol.

Let’s dive into today’s topic, live streaming!

You might wonder, "How did it start?"

In the early days of the internet, there were services like Real Player **that were popular among the early adopters of the internet. This was a service that allowed anyone to stream live videos of themselves to the world. There were no real guidelines or policing of the content. This allowed for a lot of interesting, and sometimes very strange, content to be streamed live.

As the internet became more mainstream, platforms like YouTube and Twitch emerged as live streaming platforms for creators, media outlets, and even a new line of creators called live streamers!

With the rise of 5G and other new technologies, we are seeing a new wave of live-streaming platforms and services emerge. We are also seeing a lot of new use cases for live streaming. Some of these include, but are not limited to:

  • Online Education
  • Gaming
  • Sports
  • Music
  • Conferences and events

The list goes on and on. The possibilities are endless!

As the world starts to adapt to the new normal, we are seeing a lot of these use cases become even more popular.

How big is live streaming?

Live streaming is becoming one of the most essential services in the entertainment market today. Almost all social platforms have live streaming as an option. Many creators are full-time streamers on various platforms while they live-stream different activities like gaming, the entertainment industry, making art, singing, etc. This enabled a new industry inside the entertainment industry.

This industry is growing exponentially and is only going to get bigger. In 2019, the global live-streaming market was valued at around 12.65 billion USD and was projected to reach around 30.79 billion USD by 2025, at a CAGR of around 17.5% during the forecast period from 2020 to 2025.

This industry is still in its early days and has a lot of potential for growth. This is evident by the amount of investment that is going into the live-streaming industry. Just in the past year, we have seen a lot of companies raise a lot of money to invest in the live-streaming industry. Some of these companies include

  • Stacked (12.9 Million USD)
  • Caffeine (100 Million USD)
  • Loco (42 Million USD)

This begs the question: Why is live streaming so popular?

Usually, movies, TV shows, and other forms of entertainment follow a script, which limits what the audience can see and how they can interact with the actors.

People can actually live the experiences with creators; they can also interact with them and mark that as an experience. This is similar to watching a live match of any sport; you can always watch the highlights, but when witnessed in real-time, they give an immeasurable amazing experience.

Creators can also get rapid feedback for their content and even plan their future content around the feedback given by the viewers in real time. This is something that is not possible in any other form of entertainment.

Apart from the need for a high-speed internet connection and a good computer, there are other challenges with the current state of live streaming.

There are various platforms one has to pick to Livestream, and there is also an issue with choosing hardware or software solutions for live streaming. Multistreaming is a solution, but it costs a lot and has specific requirements for the speed of the Internet and the hardware.
